The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the U.S. government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. It leads, supports, and coordinates scientific studies to better understand cancer, develop effective prevention and treatment strategies, and improve the quality of life for people affected by the disease. As part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the NCI funds research at universities, hospitals, and cancer centers across the country and conducts its own research programs. It also provides trusted cancer information, education, and resources for patients, healthcare professionals, and the public.
